BV Overlook Camp & Lodging

This property is quite spectacular. We stayed in the Shavano tiny house which was quaint and homey. The place was well decorated and had the BEST VIEW. I loved that they allowed our dogs at a reasonable flat rate and even provided treats and blankets so they could join us on the furniture! Full disclosure, we did have a few hiccups here (mostly with the hot water heater). That said, the owner (Whitney I believe) handled the instance promptly after we able to get ahold of her the next day. This campground is an absolute dump run by dishonest crooks. We stayed here in October on a night that it got below freezing and snowed. We were put in a cabin that had a 2-inch gap between the bottom of the door and threshold. The heater was more like a hair dryer and didn’t warm the cabin. It was 40 degrees in the cabin so we didn’t sleep. The floor crunched while walking on it and the platform bed was metal. When we got off the bed there was a loud bang. When we tried to get a refund from the owners she blamed us and said the problem was we didn’t understand rustic cabins. We have stayed in rustic cabins in the cold months for 10 years and never experienced this. The owner gave a 25% refund was which was inadequate for the uninhabitable conditions. We opened a dispute with our credit card and the owner then fought the dispute! There are many places in Buena Vista…take your business elsewhere.

Real camping, not a parking lot!!! Nice amenities with a rec room, laundry, wifi, dog park, playground, free morning drip coffee as well as nice espresso drinks for cheap. Also pizza and other hot foods. Showers and bathrooms clean and well kept. Management is so sweet and accommodating. Direct access to extensive hiking and biking trails, which can lead to downtown Buena Vista, about a 10 minute drive. Water is really good.

We had an amazing two-night stay at BV Overlook. Check-in was easy, and the front desk staff was helpful. Everything was extremely clean, and the tiny house had everything we needed. We loved having the firepit and chairs right outside, and such a beautiful view. Kids enjoyed the big playground, outdoor games, and indoor game room. We will definitely be back!

It was the first time we stayed here and the truth is that we loved everything. It was a very fast trip. We practically booked a day before at night. The place is very cozy and the accommodations were perfect. The bathrooms and showers were very clean. Our view of the mountains was perfect. We stayed in cabin #2 and we loved it. It was a little more private and the view was wonderful. A bonus that they have movie night and ice cream on Saturday night. A perfect getaway and enjoy nature.

3.5 stars.... Stayed here for a few nights and wanted full hookups. Not a big private campground guy but wanted to be in the BV area so gave it a shot. The upper camper sites were typical of private campgrounds, but a little larger. They are in need of some weed abatement, but I enjoyed the Sage and other non-weed plants between the pull throughs. Views are great and the best sites seem to be the tent sites buy the beautiful rock formations. Had my wife and three teens on this trip so I never get to use the camper bathroom so I relied on the campground facilities. They were typically clean but busy during peak time. No hot water in the smaller restroom/shower at the top of the hill. Main building showers never, never got more than Luke warm. So that cost a whole star in my review. Kids wanted to play volleyball, but both were flat with no needle for the pump. Staff was super friendly and the ice was more affordable than the local markets and gas stations. If I want a private campground in BV in the future I would most likely stay here. It doesn't have the facilities of nearby Chalk Creek Campground, or the water, but I have been treated poorly there too many times so won't even consider them.
